West Highland Way – Day 8 – Rest day in Glencoe – Pap of Glencoe

6 km – with Christian.
740m740m
5:20h incl. 1:20h break

The most beautiful sunshine in the morning and there was no way I would stay in. Anna wanted to rest her knee so Christian and I went for a 3-5 hours walk up to the Pap of Glencoe (742m). The hostel is right at the bottom of the Pap so the access was easy. Part of the path was a bit of a scramble. But you have an awesome panorama view onto Glencoe, Loch Leven and the surroundings already after ¼ of the way. It’s amazing. After ¾ you tackle the peak from the back so you get a good view onto Kinlochleven (where we’re gonna walk tomorrow on the WHW). On top of the Pap you had a 360° view which was amazing.

We also got the first glimpses onto Ben Nevis that we’re going to climb in 2 days. We stayed up there almost 1,5h and got down within 1,5h. I think that was the highlight so far. Although I must say I prefer the ascent; I find the descent much more difficult – when climbing mountains.

  2. It really is the perfect area to be in for those of us who love to walk and hike, not saying it was the only reason I choose Bangor uni but it was a fairly big factor in deciding

Gosh, if i had snowdonia in front of my doorstep i’d be the happiest person ever. The area around london is a little … unspectacular in terms of hills…

  4. afraid not, back home i’m in Sussex so I’m a least 8 hours away from any Scottish mountains, plus I’m about to start uni again, so I’m pretty much going to be limited to around Snowdonia

Unfortunately the weather is completely unpredictable. How long does it take you to get there? Is a spontaneous weekend trip a possibility for you?

  6. Yes looks like you were really lucky with the weather for the most part, I’ll have to go back there and experience the view for myself one day

Oh dear. I guess that happens. A lot. In scotland. 😀
We arrived in rain the day earlier. But even in clouds glencoe was so beautiful. We were lucky when we did the pap of glencoe the next day. So this is what you were supposed to see :D.
