‘Wild’ (Reese Witherspoon) – Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail

Today, ‘Wild’ with Reese Witherspoon is released in UK. It’s about a woman going on a 1.100 miles trek on the Pacific Crest Trail to digest a personal catastrophe. It’s based on a true story and has just been nominated for an Oscar.

Basic information about the Pacific Crest Trail:

– From Mexico to Canada
– Through US states California, Oregon, Washington
– 2,650 miles (4,265 kilometers)
– Passes through 7 national parks & 25 national forests
– Covers woods as well as mountain terrain
– Avoids civilisation (I love this fact)
– You need to add some extra miles to pick up food in near-by towns
– For beginners and pros
– 3,346 people have completed the entire trail
– 68 did it more than once
– if you complete the whole trail you get a medal or a certificate
– the fastest self-supported hiker is a woman, completing the trail in 60 days (= 44.17 miles/71.08 km per day)
